What to expect
Worship
We are a Christ-centered church that worships in a contemporary setting. Dress casually or come in your Sunday best. Most of us will be in jeans but any way you worship is fine with us.
Children’s Church
We believe that families should worship Jesus together, which is why we begin Sunday service as a family. Before the pastor's message, children are led to classrooms where they receive a Christ-centered teaching with their friends.
Nursery
We have an all-ages nursery available starting at 9:00 am. During service the nursery is available for preschool-aged children.
Bible study
A bible study is held every Sunday before service at 9:00 am.
Worship team
Our worship team plays modern, Christian music with an emphasis on worship. Take a listen to our Spotify playlist to see our song selection.
Our Pastor
Pastor George is excited to be part of the Good Shepherd family and our outstanding team of almost 40 professional staff. He enjoys helping people discover God’s passion for them and the joy of following Jesus everyday. He believes in team-based, servant leadership that encourages each person to identify, grow and serve in their God-given gifts and strengths.
George and Donna met at Penn State and married in 1987. Before going into ministry, they worked in the professional world in several major cities. In addition to spending time with their three children and two grandchildren, George and Donna enjoy playing music together, hiking with their yellow lab, Nittany, and hanging out around a fire pit with friends and good food. The door is always open for some good conversation and friendship in Christ.
Our values
We believe in the Triune God (Trinity): the Father almighty, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all humans; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God's Word and the Sacraments. We believe the three entities of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal to one God. Good Shepherd is part of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. As Lutherans, there are three phrases that help us bring life to what we believe: Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.
Grace Alone
God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.
Faith Alone
By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear and believe this Good News have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.
Scripture Alone
The Bible is God's inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.
What we believe
-
The Bible
The Bible is God's inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ.
-
Trinity
We believe that there is only one God Who has revealed Himself to be three “Persons”: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
-
Jesus
Jesus is the Son of God who died for the sins of humanity and rose again. We believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the fulfillment of the Old Testament promises. We believe that you are saved by God's grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ, and not by works.
-
Communion
We believe in the profound mystery of communion and take Jesus’ word when he says this is my body and blood. All who are baptized and believe may take communion with us. If you do not want to take communion, you can opt to receive a blessing instead.
-
Baptism
Baptism is a promise from God that you will never be separated from God, even after death. We baptize all ages, from infants to adults.
I or someone I know is interested in baptism.
-
Prayer
Prayer is an act of faith and obedience to God, and that God delights in hearing prayers.
